Create a healthy work-life balance - and still be successful

The average person spends about 90,000 hours at work in their lifetime. Sometimes your job can seem to overtake the rest of your life. This can be a huge stressor and detriment to your mental health.

Learn how to achieve the perfect work-life balance with these helpful tips.

Keep Your Hours

Do not be tempted to work overtime if you can help it. This can lead to fatigue, stress, or burnout. I know it's hard, sometimes you want to finish that last thing, or send one more email - but stop it! Work the hours you're paid for.

And remember to always take your breaks, and your holidays!

Find Your Balance

Look after your mental health and create a positive mindset. This will hell you in your daily life, and in your professional success!

● Guided meditations

● Positive affirmations

● Counselling

● Confiding in a friend

● Breathing exercises

Prioritise Tasks

Make planning easy with the Top Priorities Strategy which can be found in the Original Set of Calming Cards.

This Strategy helps you to break down your to-do list by evaluating the Urgency and Benefit of each task and assigning them a number.

1. Give each task an urgency score between 1-10 (with 1 being the most urgent). 2. Then do the same for the Benefits.

3. Once you have these values, add the two scores together for each task. The task with the lowest overall score will be your top priority.

4. Then you can create a simple to-do list in order of importance. We like to promote prioritising 3 tasks per day but aim for more if you wish.

Optimize Your Workspace

● Clear and tidy

● Quotes, photos, and art

● Plants

● Stationary

● Storage solutions

● Chair and desk ergonomics

Plan Your Breaks

Schedule regular breaks for food times and for relaxing. If you struggle with time blindness or hyper-focusing on tasks, set alarms on your phone to remind you to slow down.

Make sure you don't skip your breaks - your brain needs to recharge and process information correctly.

Practice Self-Care

Self-Care is key for a good work-life balance. Sometimes you have to forget about the office and take some time for yourself.

● Walk-in nature

● Eat chocolate

● Bubble bath

● Podcast or music

● TV and film

● Journalling

● Colouring or drawing
